Is Sarah Palin a grandma?
If this is true, she’s done. D-O-N-E done.

In April, when she was eight months pregnant, Palin was at an energy conference in Texas where she was scheduled to speak. According to her own account, reported in Alaska newspapers, at about 4 am on the morning she was scheduled to speak she began to leak amniotic fluid. Nevertheless, she gave the speech several hours later then headed for the airport after consulting her Alaska physician who told her it was safe to fly. The flight from Dallas to Anchorage required a change of planes and she arrived approximately 12 hours later in Anchorage. According to Palin, one reason she flew home was her desire that the baby be born in Alaska. Upon arriving in Anchorage she traveled about 45 minutes to a hospital near Palmer where the 6 pound, 2 ounce baby boy was born early on the morning following the Governor’s departure from Texas.

It has also been floating in the blogosphere that Palin’s 16 year old daughter had, prior to Trig’s birth, been on leave from her Anchorage high school with mononucleosis.
I’m sorry, but if you’re 44 and pregnant, you and your baby are both at high risk. You don’t fly nine hours to attend a conference in Texas. And you sure as heck don’t fly nine hours back home after your water broke just so you can say your kid was born in Alaska.
Some investigative reporter is about to do what McCain apparently didn’t. Between this and Gustav, this is shaping up to be a very bad week to be a Republican.

What a totally ridiculous claim, that Sarah Palin faked being pregnant so that she could claim her daughter’s baby as her own. The story is based on extremely weak evidence and expectations about her behavior that have no basis. I’m a huge Obama supporter, but making a claim like this makes Democrats and other Obama supporters look like petty idiots. I worked with a woman who gave birth to a 12 pound baby — huge! — and she hardly showed at all except during her last month. And Palin’s baby was born a month premature. Besides, the child has Down Syndrome, fairly common among women of her age.
Stupid, stupid, stupid. Please put this to rest unless there is some rock-solid evidence.
If this were a Democrat we were discussing, the right-wing blogosphere would be demanding tests, medical files, and birth certificates.
The photos are right there for you to see. If it were 1998 and that were Chelsea Clinton showing, we would have never heard the end of it. Never.
So pardon me if I have some questions. Some very legitimate questions.
Her story sounds extremely fishy to me. But if she did what they’re accusing her of, please, let’s kill her off in October, not now.
One commenter’s theory: Trig Palin is Bristol Palin’s baby; she had arranged to have him privately adopted, but the chromosomal tests suddenly turned up Down’s Syndrome and the adoption fell through. Faced with the knowledge that a Down’s baby is far harder to place, the entire Palin family decided to go to plan B and suddenly announce Sarah’s pregnancy, move the due date out a month to explain her not showing, and ensure Sarah was in the state when Bristol gave birth.
What proof is there of these accusations?
I trust it’s being investigated now–and thoroughly. I’ll need more than pictures, although I admit it looks a little suspicious. But if the Dems can’t prove this beyond a shadow of a doubt, then we’ll look just as bad as the “Obama is a secret Muslim” crowd. Kos should have waited to be more certain.

I’ll agree with you to a point, but someone had to get the ball rolling on this. It’s not a story the mainstream press would normally go after (see also: Edwards, John), so it’s left to the blogs to start asking questions. It’s quite possible Palin’s story will check out. But there’s enough here to start wondering.
Interesting allegations. Palin (and McCain) need to address this one ASAP. As you noted, if it’s true, she’s toast. If Palin can prove that the allegations are false, a bunch of lefty bloggers are going to look like desperate idiots.
There is only one way to find out if this is fact or fiction. She should have no problem having a DNA test right away.

and the idea that a 44 year old woman carrying a Downs Syndrome infant would finish a speech, then take a 7 hour plane ride to Alaska AFTER her water broke indicates that she is either lying or has VERY bad judgement. Take your pick on the above, neither is a trait that I want in the people running my country (We’ve already had 8 years of both).

This has to be the kookiest discussion that I have ever seen. Do you all have any idea of the level of conspiracy necessary to hide a birth in a hospital? That no one would talk about this? We are talking about a governor of a state. Some one whom reporters would be covering constantly. Find some contemporaneous links to these claims at the time of the birth in the legitimate press and I might give it some weight.
Well, if the baby is not her’s, this could be considered insurance misuse (fraud) against her employer’s medical insurance company.

It should be pointed out that Kos had nothing to do with this. It was a diary, which is just about like a forum post on Oregonlive. Anyone can do it. A diary, I should add, which as I write this is neither on the recommended list nor on the recent diary list. I read the site every day, and just looking at the front page I would never have seen this. The only way I saw it was through this site.

Huffington, Daily K0S, Newsvine and whoever else is running this story … if this is a rumor, why are you publishing it? Do you also publish rumors about Obama … like Obama being a muslim? It sounds like the kind of malicious reporting one would find in the National Enquirer. I wrongly assumed it would be beneath the journalistic integrity of these blogs. … or, are they in the tank for Obama? I hope this story comes back to bite these smear mongers in the ass. Remember all the crap that Hillary got for saying that she was “taking fire” in Bosnia? Her story didn’t match the inconvenient facts. This woman is literally being billed as a “SUPERMOM” who in her own words was “back at work the day after delivering her baby”. She “finished her speech and flew back to Alaska” after her water broke! She “balances a breast pump and a Blackberry”. This is not a “personal attack” on a mother with a special care baby. This is not ‘dragging someone’s kids into the debate” This is not “swift boating” or a smear campaign. It is calling out someone on HER OWN WORDS. This story is at best a gross exaggeration, and quite possibly an outright lie. What she says doesn’t make logical sense! We need to point out that this story simply isn’t credible and ask for an explanation.

To Jack Bog: If a patient has medical insurance coverage, but tells the hospital “I don’t want to use my insurance,” well that in itself is okay. But it immediately raises major red flags since she would be declining coverage for a “major” life event that’s “covered” by her premiums. If she told the hospital “hush, hush, let’s just do this quietly and I’ll pay you cash,” something is definitely awry and it’s almost an admission that it’s not her baby. What does delivering a baby with an overnight or two-night hospital stay cost if you pay out of pocket? Perhaps $20,000 or more!
On the other hand, if she did use her employer’s insurance to deliver her daughter’s baby under false pretenses, she could face sanctions for insurance misuse (fraud).

The points on both sides are compelling. I am a left leaning moderate. The point to the whole thing is this lady is not ready to be president. With a 72 year old guy who twice beat cancer he needed to pick a Romney, Paulenty, Lieberman, etc. He picked someone who believes some crazy far off stuff from a land (Alaska) that is less like the rest of the US then most parts of Canada. Yes I 100% think the baby is her grandson not son. I think the new pregnancy is a cover up. Why throw the daughter under the bus and announce a pregnancy to put these rumors to rest. Why not just show the true hospital records. Either way I don’t care with the exception that if life happens why is she hiding something. Also what the person above said. Either she’s grandma and hiding it or she is the dumbest mother of 4 who was pregnant and soon the be 5. I have 2 children. I may be off on the exact time period but I thought women were not supposed to fly in the last tri-mester?????So yes judgment issue or big liar. It will come out even in a small town. Interesting story. Pictures seem suspicious. All I can say is I hope the TRUTH comes out whatever it is. After several apparent misstatements about the bridge to nowhere and the sale of the the plane I am questioning her credibility. Usually where there is smoke there is fire.
This all mises my big question. Hold was the boyfriend at the time of the cuurent alleged pregnancy. If her is 18 and she is 17 and they are or are having sex that would be a misdemeanor or a felony in most states. Is anyone looking into this? where is the county prosecutor? I thought Republicans were for law and order and against adults having sex with minors????
I guess the republican strategy is working. It made you talk and gossip about Palin and to forget about the issues on hand. I know if this was a democrate we would never hear the end of it, but lets hammer them with the issues over and over again and tell them that we are not interested in gossip.
1. Downs baby proves it’s hers ..?? really?? saying it’s a downs baby does not make it a downs baby even if it makes the story fit better.

3. Bad judgment? .. indeed .. so horribly bad that it serves as (circumstantial) evidence.
4. Big conspiracy can’t happen. Hospital documents hard to fake? ..
