Second Period
PG on the PP. The Hawks still trying to get their bearings.
-Dudas, I think, rockets a shot from the point just wide. No one tries to block it. As the shot thunders off the board, I understand why.
-Hunt for high sticking. Francis is out with Ehrhardt on the PP. Ehrhardt let’s fly. Cyr gets just enough. The Hawks just miss a tic-tac-toe through the crease. Not a bad PP after a shaky start.
-Schmermund goes off for hooking. Gabriel and Bobbee out for the PK. Should be interesting.
-Voytechek and Swystun break out on a shorthanded 2-on-1. Swystun *just* misses stuffing it home. The Hawks kill off the balance of the penalty. Could it be a sign of life? Or is PG really this bad?
-Kowalski steals a pass at the blueline and skates in alone on Portland’s White. Goes high….White smothers it! Wow!
-Portland now trails shots only 16-13.
-Thiessen gets tagged for tripping at 8:54. His immediate reaction is priceless.
-Ehrhardt let’s loose wide from the point. He’s the only Hawk apparently who can take that shot.
-Poulter pokes the puck out of the Portland zone then picks up a tripping penalty. Ehrhardt goes off for holding.
-Would it kill the Hawks to PLEASE quit playing YMCA and Sweet Caroline. Perhaps they could mix in the Footloose soundtrack. That could be “our” thing.
-Deagle is PARKED alone in front of the net. No one within six feet. He calls for the puck. EMPHATICALLY now. It comes in, he tips it. Rebound. Fuller scores. Gabriel with a minus. Bobbee too. 1-0 Cougars.
-Thiessen to the box for slashing. Ehrhardt shoots from the point. Cyr gets a piece, but it dribbles past him and over the line. They give it to Sjodin on the redirect. 1-1 As I type, I missed a second goal…Walker maybe? No, I guess it goes to King. King from Betker and Walker. I’d sure like to see more from that combination. 2-1 Hawks
-Schmermund *just* misses roofing one. PG has fallen apart. This period can’t end quickly enough for them.
-Voytechek goes off for hooking. PG needs this to regroup. Dudas rings the bell. The crowd gasps.
-Bobbee on a shorthanded breakaway….wide…
