Live From Press Row: 1/6/08

January 6th, 2008 Chris Snethen

Which Hawks team shows up tonight? With Jason Nissen reffing, I hope they’re prepared to get punched in the mouth. A lot. If the game gets out of hand late, look for a line brawl. It’s Nissen’s specialty.
-As the Hawks skated just before the puck was dropped, Chris Francis stood in one spot and high fived every teammate as they skated by. Some of them had semi-elaborate knucks and bumps. It was positively Standishian. Somebody give him a letter!
-Magnusson is a freaking monster. 6′8″ 250. Second on the team with 91 PIM. His 8 points is better than all but one Winter Hawk defensemen.
-We’re 7 minutes in and the Hawks look as listless as last night. Gabriel turned the puck over in his own zone again. White stopped a pretty decent PG chance.
-10 minutes in, shots are 9-3 PG. The Hawks are ALL standing around waiting for someone to take charge of the game.
-I see Sokol listed on the line-up, but he’s not on the press line-up. Is he gone? He’s got all the skill, but he needs to gain some maturity.
-White turns away Morgan MacLean on a breakaway. a simple little poke check is all it took as MacLean never quite had control.
-Cyr stones King point blank with 2:30 on the clock. Portland is generating the odd chance, but they’ve got no space.
-PG has tic-tac-toed through the neutral zone with ease a few times now. At some point they’re gonna spring free. Gabriel will probably be the guy they skate by.
-PG ices the puck twice in a row. They’re looking for a home run pass with Gabriel on the ice. They’ve very narrowly missed it.
-The period ends with PG on the power play. They’ll have 1:16 remaining when we pick it back up in the second.
