Weekend Wrap-Up

October 8th, 2007 by Chris Snethen · No Comments · Arizona Cardinals, Man City, Sports

Even when things slow down a little, things never slow down. You know? I’ve been trying to get my Winter Hawks recap up, but keep putting it down. So many good things to say. So many frustrations as well. So let’s talk about the other things on my mind as I try to figure out what the hell happened to Tayler Jordan.

- No one won the Underdog pool this weekend. About half of us picked the Seahawks. This marks the last time I will ever thrust them again. Watching the game with a couple of football coaches made for interesting viewing. Both questioned Shaun Alexander’s heart. The guy does tend to go down rather easily. I sent out an email prior to kick-off lamenting my pick and wishing I’d gone with Buffalo tonight. Oh well.

- I’m not generally one to wish ill upon folks, but the injury to Matt Leinart does bring a smile to my face. The kid needs to sit. The only reason he’s even seen the field this season is because they sucked so bad last year. If the Cards had a real coach last season and an actual o-line for Edge to run behind, Leinart would still be holding the clipboard. So the search is on for a new back-up. Whisenhunt says he has someone in mind. Dear God, don’t let it be Jeff George.

Update:  Nooooooo!!!!!!

- My Oregon City Pioneers are now 2-1 in league. The schedule sets up nicely with home games against Milwaukie and West Linn coming up before ending the season at Clackamas? Are the mighty Pios a playoff team? Probably not. But it’s nice to dream.

- Despite what Canzano said yesterday, Jerry Glanville has giant brass balls. Is Portland State a good football team? Heck no. But that’s really not the point. I listened to the last few minutes of the Vikings game Saturday afternoon as I puttered around. The Viks marched the ball right down Northern Arizona’s throat in the closing minute and scored with just a few seconds left on the clock. Rather than go for the extra-point and the tie, Jerry elected to go for two. They failed, but they made a fan out of me.

- The Southern Oregon University Raiders held off Azusa Pacific to go 3-2 on the year. That’s really all I know about that. Are they in a conference? With whom? I’m so confused.

- Man City beat Middlesbrough to keep pace with the big dogs and hold down third-place in the Premiership. It’s the Middlesbroughs of the world “we” need to continue feasting on if “we” want to keep up this pace. But then you already knew that.
