Not A Bad Start

August 12th, 2007 Chris Snethen

I missed the first half of the Man City match yesterday morning.  My guys took an early 0:1 lead on new guy Rolando Bianchi’s goal in the 18th minute.  I finally dragged my butt out of bed at the start of the second half.  West Ham seemed to dominate the first 15 minutes or so of the second half.  At least they had posession for most of it and a couple of decent opportunities.  But new Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel (dude’s 20 and starting in the Premiership!) kept his team out of trouble.  He wasn’t really challenged, but a clean sheet is a clean sheet.  Add a second goal by Brazilian Deiberson Geovanni, and you get a 0:2 result.

I think that’s how you do it. Here in The States, the home team is always listed either on the right or on the bottom in a schedule or when showing a score. But when stating a score, we always give the winning score first. “Portland won 101-87″ The rest of the planet have figured out a way to designate the home team while giving the score. The home score is always given first, regardless of score. Makes sense. So if the Blazers beat the Lakers in LA, the score would be 87:101. I think. It’s for issues like this I wish Velveeta were still around. Alas.

So it’s off to newly promoted Derby County on Wedesday. The Rams, everyone’s favorites to not only for relegation but they’re also predicted to challenge for lowest point total in Premiership history, managed to tie Portsmouth yesterday in their Premiership debut.  It would be nice to start the season with 2 victories, especially since after Derby we go back to back against The Scum and Arsenal.
